failure to success

This week I want to write about transforming what we view as failed experiences into valuable fodder for our future success. Naturally, it is never pleasant to experience failure, but that does not make it a bad thing. As hard as it may seem to believe, there are benefits to experiencing failure. Personal coaches and top psychologists both agree that we can learn valuable lessons from these experiences that can benefit us in the end.
i want to share with you a letter i received.

In my work as an advisor, I strive to help my clients look at their life situations from different angles, by finding opportunities and learning lessons when things don't come out as planned. One example that comes to mind is a client who I'll call Cheri.

Cheri's hope was to become a fantasy novelist, but that dream was compromised when every agent and publishing house she contacted rejected her first novel. When I first met Cheri, she was in a frustrated and dejected place and wanted to know what her astrological chart revealed about her professional life. Interestingly, her chart showed a very promising career in the areas of writing and publishing. So, my advice to her was to keep trying and to also explore other ways to utilize her writing talents.

Cheri decided she needed to take a break from focusing on her novel, so she put it away and began volunteering at a local children's hospital. She became a storyteller and made up all kinds of fantastic adventures to entertain the kids in the children's ward. I am happy to report that she was well received as a storyteller and was soon writing her stories down to share at other local hospitals.

I bet you can guess the rest, Cheri became a very fulfilled and successful children's author and is now very happy that she "failed" at writing fantasy novels. Her story is proof that not only can failed experiences encourage us to be more flexible and determined, but that they can also point us in the perfect direction.

I hope Cheri's story will remain with you so that the next time you feel yourself struggling with the idea of "failure," you will think differently about it. When you open yourself up to the gifts the universe brings, you can find amazing opportunities.

take time to enjoy nature

i love sitting in the garden and being outdoors , smelling, seeing and touching all the different things that you do in the outdoors apart from the creepy crawlies, but am ashamed to say i have neglected my own this year because:

1 my lawn mower wont work it is a petrol one and cuts in the rain when it does workif your arms are long enough to start what with the cord you have to pull.

2 we bought electric one that drags your grass if you cut it wet.

3 the rain never stops when i am at home long enough for us to get the mower out .

4 i have thought of using scissors but takes too long, you havent seen my garden.

5 but my flowers have bloomed profusely though even though they have fought through all the grass they are surrounded with, if there was a fight between the flowers and the grass this year i would say the flowers have won . even the dandelions were very proud this year.

so yes pretty disappointed with the rain for making me feel this way,

brick walls

I often find inspiration in the words and deeds of others, and sometimes I share what I have learned with my friends and family. This is just such a time.

Recently, I received an email, containing a link to a digital video file of a young professor, Dr. Randy Pausch, giving a "Last Lecture" at Carnegie Mellon University. Last lectures are designed to give retiring professors the opportunity to share their wisdom and thoughts on life. As I watched the clip of Dr. Pausch's lecture, I learned why this 46-year-old professor was giving a last lecture. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

I was moved by his words, and also by his attitude. He didn't skirt the fact that he had a terminal disease, but the actual focus of his talk was on living life. I was amazed and touched by his sense of humor and his joy when he spoke about life, dreams, and the importance of loving and learning.

In essence, Dr. Pausch's message focused on viewing every day as a precious gift. No matter what our problems may be, there is always something valuable to learn, to do, to say, and to be. He talked about the necessity of having visions or dreams, even if it is unlikely that we will be around to see them realized.

I was particularly taken with Dr. Pausch's perspective on the seemingly insurmountable obstacles we come up against, or the "brick walls" as he called them. Rather than view them as hindrances that keep us from achieving our dreams, he sees them as something "that separates us from the people who don't really want to achieve their dreams." Never giving up is a vital lesson to learn when it comes to achieving dreams and goals.

Dr. Pausch also encouraged his audience to be earnest, to find the best in everybody even when it means having to look really hard, to work hard without complaining, to apologize when you make mistakes, and to be grateful for every day and every moment. It was a creative, positive, and active outlook on living life that we can all benefit from.

if you would like to view this inspiring video clip for yourself, just do a computer search for "Randy Pausch" or "the Last Lecture."
